As restrictions begin to ease, we’re so excited to announce that the motionball Marathon of Sport Vancouver is back – Saturday, September 11, 2021!

This year’s event will have all the same elements of a traditional Marathon of Sport that you know and love but instead of hitting the playing field for a day of sports, we’ll be travelling through the park visiting checkpoints and completing activities along the way! Think scavenger hunt x escape room x amazing race with a motionball twist and you’ve got our Marathon of Sport Vancouver: Challenge 21!

What can you expect?

  • On Sept. 11th, participants will check-in at our home base in Metro Vancouver for Opening Ceremonies and to pick up your Team kit including your motionball hat, tshirt and mask!
  • Each Team will be joined by a local Special Olympics athlete
  • From here, Teams will have up to 3 hours to complete 21 challenges
  • These challenges will take participants on a 5km journey through the park, with checkpoints and activities along the way!
motionball remains committed to the health and safety of our participants, volunteers and the Special Olympics athletes. All aspects of the Marathon of Sport Vancouver: Challenge 21 event will align with local public health guidelines and the Special Olympics BC return to play guidelines.

While fundraising is one of our goals, Marathon of Sport is about so much more. This day not only brings awareness to the Special Olympics movement, but allows people with and without intellectual disabilities to interact, build lifelong friendships, and ultimately create more inclusive communities.

By entering a Team, you will also help to ensure our friends at Special Olympics British Columbia have the resources they need to stay active at home and that when the time comes later this year, they can safely return to the sport programs they love.

motionball is a national non-profit organization that empowers young Canadians to be leaders in their communities, raising funds and awareness for Special Olympics through inclusive social and sporting events.

At motionball Vancouver, we’re working to ensure that individuals with intellectual disabilities living in Vancouver are included, supported, and celebrated.

motionball events put the fun back into giving, in Vancouver and across Canada.

motionball is working to promote positivity and inclusion, demonstrating that there is #NoGoodWay to use the “r-word” (retard). This word is hurtful, outdated, and brings back memories of being bullied and excluded for individuals with intellectual disabilities.

As motionballers, we are proud ambassadors of the #NoGoodWay campaign. Learn more and take the pledge at

Marathon of Sport Vancouver

motionball is proud to donate 70% of the funds raised from motionball Vancouver events to Special Olympics BC. This funding is directed to support programs for local athletes in the community. 25% is directed to the Special Olympics Canada Foundation, whose mission is to ensure the long-term financial integrity of the Special Olympics movement in Canada and to fund long term athlete and volunteer growth. The remaining 5% will help grow the #NoGoodWay Campaign aiming to end the use of the R-word (retard) in everyday conversation. We’re encouraging Canadians to make the choice to eliminate the R-word from their vocabulary and empower them to take #NoGoodWay to their circles of influence.

motionball’s mandate is to introduce the next generation of volunteers and donors to the Special Olympics movement through integrated social and sporting events. motionball now hosts 50+ annual events in 27 cities across Canada. motionball is proud to have donated $14M to the Special Olympics Canada Foundation since our inception in 2002.
