As restrictions begin to ease, we’re so excited to announce that the motionball Marathon of Sport Kingston will return on September 18th!

This year’s event will have all the same elements of a traditional Marathon of Sport that you know and love but instead of hitting the playing field for a day of sports, we’ll be traveling through the downtown core solving clues. completing challenges, and visiting checkpoints along the way! Think scavenger hunt x escape room x amazing race with a motionball twist and you’ve got our Marathon of Sport Kingston: Challenge 21!

What can you expect?

  • On September 18th, participants will check-in at our home base, Queens University for Opening Ceremonies, to pick up your Team Kit, and receive your First Clue!

  • From Queens, Teams will venture downtown Kingston trying to solve each clue or complete the challenge in order to get to the next checkpoint

  • These challenges will take participants on a 5-10km journey through the downtown core

  • Each Team will be assigned a local Special Olympic athlete who they will meet virtually before the event and at checkpoints along the way.

  • Join us for Closing Ceremonies and social on the evening of September 18th!

motionball remains committed to the health and safety of our participants, volunteers and Special Olympics athletes. We will ensure this years event aligns with local public health guidelines and the Special Olympics Ontario return-to-play guidelines.

motionball is a national non-profit organization that empowers young Canadians to be leaders in their communities, raising funds and awareness for Special Olympics through inclusive social and sporting events. At motionball Kingston, we’re working to ensure that individuals with intellectual disabilities living in Kingston are included, supported, and celebrated.

motionball events put the fun back into giving, in Kingston and across Canada.

This year in particular, Special Olympics athletes need us more than ever as many remain isolated and alone, at a greater risk of contracting COVID-19 than the general population. Join us in raising funds and awareness for the cause so that Special Olympics sport programs can return with strength, and that no athlete is left behind.

While fundraising is one of our goals, Marathon of Sport is about so much more. This day not only brings awareness to the Special Olympics movement, but allows people with and without intellectual disabilities to interact, build lifelong friendships, and ultimately create more inclusive communities.

By entering a Team, you will also help to ensure our friends at Special Olympics Ontario have the resources they need to stay active at home and that when the time comes later this year, they can safely return to the sport programs they love.

motionball is working to promote positivity and inclusion, demonstrating that there is #NoGoodWay to use the “r-word” (retard). This word is hurtful, outdated, and brings back memories of being bullied and excluded for individuals with intellectual disabilities.

As motionballers, we are proud ambassadors of the #NoGoodWay campaign. Learn more and take the pledge at

motionball is proud to donate 70% of the funds raised from motionball Kingston events to Special Olympics Ontario. This funding is directed to support programs for local athletes in the community. 25% is directed to the Special Olympics Canada Foundation, whose mission is to ensure the long-term financial integrity of the Special Olympics movement in Canada and to fund long term athlete and volunteer growth. The remaining 5% will help grow the #NoGoodWay Campaign aiming to end the use of the R-word (retard) in everyday conversation. We’re encouraging Canadians to make the choice to eliminate the R-word from their vocabulary and empower them to take #NoGoodWay to their circles of influence.

motionball’s mandate is to introduce the next generation of volunteers and donors to the Special Olympics movement through integrated social and sporting events. motionball now hosts 50+ annual events in 27 cities across Canada. motionball is proud to have donated $14M to the Special Olympics Canada Foundation since our inception in 2002.
