MARATHON OF SPORT IS BACK!

JUNE 22, 2024

HILLFIELD STRATHALLAN COLLEGE

WHAT IS MARATHON OF SPORT?

Participants of all abilities join in teams of 10 for a full day of fun and inclusive sports all while raising funds and awareness in support of the Special Olympics Canada Foundation.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Sign up as a Team Captain and recruit up to 10 participants to join your Team! When you arrive onsite at Marathon of Sport, you will be joined by 1-2 local Special Olympics athletes from the community!

Together you will participate in a variety of sports and activities throughout the day including soccer, football, basketball, ultimate, giant pong, benchball and more!

Each participant will receive a motionball t-shirt, motionball hat, lunch, refreshments, a personal fundraising link with the opportunity to earn amazing incentive prizes, a ticket to the onsite After Party and more!

HOW TO REGISTER

There are 2 ways that you can register to participate at Marathon of Sport Hamilton:

Standard Team: As a Standard Team, you and your teammates will each donate $50 to register and work together to reach your Team fundraising goal of $1000. Refund your registration and play for free when you reach your individual fundraising goal of $100!

Corporate: As a Corporate Team, your organization will pay $1000, waiving the $50 registration fee and inviting up to 10 employees to participate at no cost. This is a great employee engagement and Team Building activity while supporting an important cause. Your organization will also receive online and onsite logo recognition, along with all of the items listed above for your entire Team!

What’s included in your $50 registration fee:

  • a motionball hat & t-shirt
  • light breakfast, lunch & refreshments
  • a chance to earn fundraising incentives
  • a ticket and your first drink at the onsite After Party
  • and most importantly, a chance to play with the proud Special Olympics athletes who motionball supports!

We hope you are as excited as we are to hit the field alongside our friends at Special Olympics Hamilton!

WHY YOUR SUPPORT MATTERS

While fundraising is one of our goals, Marathon of Sport is about so much more. This day not only brings awareness to the Special Olympics movement, but allows people with and without intellectual disabilities to interact, build lifelong friendships, and ultimately create more inclusive communities.

By entering a Team, you will also help to ensure our friends at Special Olympics Ontario have the resources they need to stay active at home and that when the time comes later this year, they can safely return to the sport programs they love.

WHO WE ARE

motionball is a national non-profit organization that empowers young Canadians to be leaders in their communities, raising funds and awareness for Special Olympics through inclusive social and sporting events. At motionball Hamilton, we’re working to ensure that individuals with intellectual disabilities living in Hamilton are included, supported, and celebrated.

motionball events put the fun back into giving, in Hamilton and across Canada.

This year in particular, Special Olympics athletes need us more than ever as many remain isolated and alone, at a greater risk of contracting COVID-19 than the general population. Join us in raising funds and awareness for the cause so that Special Olympics sport programs can return with strength, and that no athlete is left behind.

#NOGOODWAY

motionball is working to promote positivity and inclusion, demonstrating that there is #NoGoodWay to use the “r-word” (retard). This word is hurtful, outdated, and brings back memories of being bullied and excluded for individuals with intellectual disabilities.

As motionballers, we are proud ambassadors of the #NoGoodWay campaign. Learn more and take the pledge at motionball.com/nogoodway.

motionball is proud to donate 70% of the funds raised from motionball Hamilton events to Special Olympics Ontario. This funding is directed to support programs for local athletes in the community. 25% is directed to the Special Olympics Canada Foundation, whose mission is to ensure the long-term financial integrity of the Special Olympics movement in Canada and to fund long term athlete and volunteer growth. The remaining 5% will help grow the #NoGoodWay Campaign aiming to end the use of the R-word (retard) in everyday conversation. We’re encouraging Canadians to make the choice to eliminate the R-word from their vocabulary and empower them to take #NoGoodWay to their circles of influence.

motionball’s mandate is to introduce the next generation of volunteers and donors to the Special Olympics movement through integrated social and sporting events. motionball now hosts 50+ annual events in 17 cities across Canada. motionball is proud to have donated $18M to the Special Olympics Canada Foundation since our inception in 2002.
